How to Dress Up a Simple Wedding Dress!

The thought of buying a simple wedding gown used off Ebay or even brand new, is enough to some brides cringe; but let's face it, sometimes options grow more narrow and we're forced to explore all our options.

I want to open your minds and maybe spark some creativity in today's modern bride. We live in a new era for weddings, because the rules of tradition and etiquette have come face-to-face with today's rebellious DIY brides. These rebellious brides have off-set the rules and opened our minds to new possibilities - making the way for brides who wish to show-off their creativity!

Today I want to show you a very simple gown that I actually found on Ebay recently. This gown is going for $119. Honestly, would YOU buy it? Could you envision wearing this for your wedding day?

Well, what if I told you this gown was designed by J. Crew? Suddenly a light bulb goes off in your head, "Hey, that's a good designer with quality clothes!" What if I gave your some details?

"Crafted of floaty silk chiffon with a delicate crinkled texture, it features a fitted crossover bodice with shirring at the shoulders and bust and a flattering wide waistband. "

Oooo! Now, allow me to show you an actual picture from the designer:

SOPHIA: This gown is currently on clearance for $298 on J.Crew

If you're not quite convinced, let's explore a few more options.

What if we added some more sparkle?

some vintage class?

Or pure romance - showing off your girly side?

It's amazing what a few embellishments will do to an outfit - or a wedding gown! So, before you close the door on simplicity, stretch the imagination.

Ugly day? Stressed out? Time for a Crepe Party!

Blah - winter is here and perhaps you hate those gray boring days as much as I do. If you're busy worrying about weddings or life in general, how about throwing a crepe party with some good friends? Get your mind off things and relax - it's really simple too!

For drinks, serve coffee, hot cocoa, water, and milk

Crepes are delicious hot off the pan! Yum!!

The great thing about crepes, is you can fill them with just about anything you imagine! For this party, we served a cream cheese topping, peanut butter, and blackberry or strawberry jam! Next, everyone fills the middle of their crepe with fruits to choose from. One girl even suggested nutella and bananas together - yum! This is a wonderful way to bring friends closer together with warm delights and some great laughts. Get your mind off the cares of this world - have a good time and relax!

Here's the recipe - enjoy!

Your Wedding Day Fragrance

Have you even thought about it yet? What fragrance will you wear on your wedding day?
It may seem like a silly question, but scents bring back memories. Think back.

For me, I smell Clinique Happy and think of Junior High school. When I smell Adidas perfume or Cherry Blossom from Bath and Body Works, I think of High School. Everyone knows what perfumes/colognes their parents wear and when we smell those scents, we are reminded of them.
But! When I smell Lovely By Sarah Jessica Parker, I'm taken back to my wedding day. I remember already having my hair done and putting the final touches on my makeup, after just slipping into my dress. Then, I sprayed on the perfume that reminded my of my wedding day. The scent to me, smells elegant, romantic, and just a touch of floral. Now, I only wear it for special occasions (partially because it was discontinued.. sad to say.) to bring back memories of the best day of my life.

I think it's something every bride should incorporate into their wedding. Pick a fragrance you think defines your wedding. Is your wedding- classic and romantic? Meaningful and intimate? A celebration? Outdoors or destination?

I would say florals are the most popular for weddings. One of my favorites is Vera Wang. Something amazing about this perfume is that the designer spent time thinking about the packaging of this perfume, the bottle is supposed to be shaped like an A-line wedding dress to remind the bride of her elegance.  Love that.

A woodsy/oriental fragrance that is also one of my personal favorites is Euphoria by Calvin Klein. This perfume has undertones of Black orchid, Lotus Blossom, and Amber. This fragrance lasts all night!

A vanilla scent would be Dolce and Gabbana The One. This fragrance has vanilla, amber, and musk undertones mixed with mandarin and peach. This is perfect for the meaningful/intimate wedding. This scent has a warmth to it.

A fruity scent would be Viva La Juicy from Juicy Couture.  This is a fun, carefree fragrance that anyone would love! It has undertones of mandarins, wild berries, jasmine, and honeysuckle.

Whatever fragrance you decide, make sure you keep it special. Keep it for anniversaries, date nights, and birthdays. It will be more meaningful that way. ~

Irish Spring Romance - inspiration board

If you have been following my blog, you might begin to notice a pattern of my beginning obsession with the color chartreuse. It's not a color very common to the human eye, but recently after a stunning show of display at the 2012 Spring fashion show, Jason Wu wowed the crowd when he went over-the-top bold!

You have to admit, your eyes did a double-take dance! I know mine did! Chartreuse has finally had her opportunity to break forth into the fashion industry and although I can't see this particular color lingering with us for fashion decades to come, I will say I will appreciate it while she's here to influence us. Note: this color is only meant for the boldest of brides!

This color is EXTREMELY daring and beautiful on the right person (if I'm blunt, some would say "hideous" on the wrong person); but I believe for a wedding, it's not so drastic once you relax it a few shades into a pastel. THIS would compliment almost any other color for a perfect spring/summer wedding.

I will be stalking them with their invitations to come, because I think I'm in love with their designs!

Eyeliner Tutorial for Spring 2012

I truly feel like 2012 has created all sorts of eyeliner looks that are catching everyone's eye. Believe it or not, the way you wear your eyeliner has a big difference on your eye shape. I've seen too many people wearing the wrong liner for their eye shape. When choosing a liner, first you have to decide whether you feel more comfortable with a pencil liner, liquid liner, or a cream liner. This is all a personal preference.

The ones pictured above are probably my favorites from each category.
Cream Liner: Smashbox Cream Liner $22
Liquid Liner: Benefit Magic Ink $20
Pencil Liner: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencil $18

Once you have decided what you are most comfortable with,  look closely at your own eye shape.  There are about 4 different shapes, Almond, Asian, Round, or Oval.  Then look to see where your eyes sit according to position.

The size of your eye shape also plays a role in choosing your eyeliner-

Once your have decided all of these things, let's move on to how you should wear YOUR eyeliner!

For wide set eyes

Apply the eyeliner on your upper and lower lid from the inner corner of the eyes working your way towards the outer third of the eye. If you can, use a lighter color on the outer corner of your eye. This look will make your eyes look closer together.

For close set eyes

Apply the eyeliner from the outer corner of the upper and lower eyelids, working your way towards the third of the inner corner. Do not line the inner corner of your eyes because it will make your eyes appear even closer. You can use a darker color towards the outside and go lighter as you work inward.

For small eyes
Apply a lighter shade of eyeliner which gradually thickens from the inner corner of the eyes towards the outer corner. If you use a white liner on the inside water line, it will make your eyes look bigger and brighter.

For droopy eyes
Apply the eyeliner close to the eyelashes from two thirds of the eye towards the outer corner, gently sweeping the line upwards to create a cat eye effect. Doing so will make your eye look lifted up.

For almond shaped eyes
Apply the eyeliner only on your upper lid from the inner towards the outer corner of the eye. You are the lucky eye shape to pull off almost any liner look.

For Asian eyes
Apply the eyeliner on your upper lid from the two third inner corner of the eye towards the outer corner and on the lower lid apply the eyeliner on the entire lid from the inner towards the outer corner of the eye. Again with this look it would work well to use a white liner on the inner rim, to brighten and open up your eye area.

Introducing Jenelle

So, Jenelle - How do you feel about joining "The Glass Slipper" and what do you hope to offer?
I'm super excited to start with “The Glass Slipper!" Weddings have always captured my heart since I was a little girl, so I hope I can offer inspiration and advice. My wish is that EVERY BRIDE feels beautiful on her wedding day. Every girl deserves that.

Do you have a passion for working with bridal makeovers?
As a makeup artist, working with brides reminds me why I love my job so much. Whenever I work on a bride, I make sure (first and foremost), before I apply makeup to their face, that God created them beautiful without makeup. Every girl dreams of their wedding day and how they want to look breath-taking, not only for themselves, but especially for their beloved. I feel so blessed to be part of something so special.

What is the BEST tip you can give a bride on her makeup?
Hmmm, that's a toughie! I explain to almost everyone at Sephora, that if they bought nothing else – it should be eye-primer! If they listen, I know I have done my job. I cannot express the importance of a primer! Your face wants to absorb that makeup as it sits on your skin all day -- yuck!

You need a primer to not only act as a barrier - you also need it to be the glue for your makeup hold onto. A face primer can have brightening properties (to even out your skin tone), also have anti-aging benefits, hydrate your skin, and smooth out your skin helping to disguise pores too!
Eye primers can come in different colors, help with discoloration, help brighten your lid, and can tint the color of your eye shadow. I am telling you, when I use primer, I could put my eye makeup on at 5am and by midnight it would still be on!

Some brides think that makeup is superficial and unimportant - what are your thoughts on this?
Makeup can be superficial. If it is your wedding day, make sure you still look like YOU. Don't over-do your makeup to the point that you look back at your wedding pictures and say, “Wow that's me?!” Less is MORE.
You want SOME form of makeup for your special day, even if you don't normally wear any. In pictures, you want your prize features to stand out- that doesn't mean you have to wear a lot of makeup to do so. Sweep on a complimentary eye-shadow color to make your eye color pop in your pictures! Powder on some HD tinted setting powder to help absorb oil and give you just a hint of color. Wear a matte nude lipstick just to make your lip pop! Even those few things, will make all the difference in your pictures, and you will still look like your beautiful self.

Is there anything you'd like to say or add?
I love my job for many reasons. It gives me the opportunity for even just a few minutes, to make women feel beautiful. It gives me the greatest joy, to know that I helped someone feel her best and I say this, because I truly believe God has created us all divine in his sight. He is sad when we think of his masterpiece as a mistake. I believe every woman should feel beautiful - that's how God created us to BE.

I Peter 3 says,
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and wearing gold jewelry, or wearing fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."

Psalm 139:14-15
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place when I was woven together in the depths of the earth."

There are so many other verses too pertaining to the beauty God created us with! We need to walk knowing that our creator loves us, cherishes us, and finds us BEAUTIFUL. ~
