DIY At Home Remedies

We pride our blog on helping the DIY Bride, on a budget. We were both brides once, and want to pass on tips and tricks to stay in your budget. Maybe you can't afford a facial or manicure before you wedding, or just want to feel pampered after your wedding for fun! I was wandering through the Library in our town a few weeks ago, and stumbled upon a neat book, called "Supermarket Spa" by Joey Greene. This book really opened my eyes to what things we already have laying around our houses, that we can use the pamper ourselves! Let's face it, we women love some pampering! So, I wanted to share some of the best parts of this book I found, that you can use for your wedding day, or any other time!

If your feeling stressed or tired, and your eyes look it- then try out this tip!
"Soothe your tired eyes by immersing 2 Lipton Tea Bags in warm water, squeezing out the excess moisture and placing them over closed eyes for twenty minutes. The Tannin found in tea will reduce puffiness and revitalize tired eyes."

If stress keeps you up at night (especially the night before your wedding day..)- check this out
"Swallow one tea spoon of honey right before bedtime. Honey acts as a sedative to your nervous system- usually within an hour."

To exfoliate and brighten your skin- Try this mask!
"Unless your are allergic to aspirin, Grind six Aspirin into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle.  Add just enough water to make a thin paste, dampen your face, and gently massage into skin, avoiding your eyes. The Salicylic Acid in the aspirin exfoliates dead skin cells. Rinse clean with warm water."

To Moisturize your skin- Use this shocking mask!
"For an invigorating and moisturizing facial, cover your face in Cool Whip, wait 20 minutes, then wash with clean and warm water, followed by cold water. The coconut and palm kernel oils in Cool Whip moisturize and and soothe the skin."

If your struggle with acne, or just have a couple stress pimples- Try these ideas!
"Mix one tsp. Arm & Hammer Baking Soda with enough water to make a paste. Put a small dab on any blemish and let it dry. The baking soda absorbs oil and dries the blemish."

I've done this one, and it works for me!- "Apply a dab of Colgate regular flavor toothpaste (not get) on the pimple. The calcium carbonate in toothpaste dries up the pimples quickly and the glycerin soothes the skin. Just be sure to use the regular flavor,- not the tartar control, which contains harsher chemicals."

" Apply a dab of Aloe Vera Gel to reddened blemishes to tame the redness. The soothing gel made from aloe vera is soothing and promotes healing."

For at home manicures and pedicures- You might like these little tips!
"Moisturize your cuticles by applying a thin coat of crisco vegetable shortening."

" Soften cuticles by soaking your fingertips or toes in small bowl filled with vinegar for 5 minutes. Or wrap your feet in a towel saturated with vinegar. Also, nail polish will adhere longer to fingernails that are soaked in vinegar."

Good to know! I know I'll be trying some of these tips! I hope these little ideas encourage you to try using items you already own, to pamper yourself on a budget!!

DISC Personality - How to Relax

Relaxing is important and vital to our health. Based on the DISC personality assessment test, I have come up with a few simple solutions to help you understand the best way for you to de-stress.

Before reading, take the DISC assessment.
It is possible more then one relaxing technique will relate to you from the another personality traits, because we usually come out a combination of two. After taking the test, you will see the dominance in one percentage and whatever you came out second, this will show your other personality trait.

Relaxing doesn't necessarily mean sitting and doing nothing, depending on your personality. Here is a simple list of ideas to help you de-stress from your wedding planning or every-day life!
